The SEMIS Coalition and others around the country are engaging in new and creative ways to make learning about community issues relevant and impactful to youth. Much of place-based education and the EcoJustice framework that we use in the SEMIS Coalition gets to just such a process – engaging students not only in understanding the basis for environmental and social issues, but helping them learn the skills to evaluate, share and take action on the issues they care most about!
