Greetings!
This year the SEMIS Coalition received the John W. Porter Endowed Chair in Urban Education, one of the most prestigious awards in the Eastern Michigan University College of Education. One of the roles of the Porter Chair is to create and facilitate provocative discussions on campus and the broader community about critical issues in urban education. This year we will be curating a blog series that includes diverse perspectives on EcoJustice Education, Place-based Education, and Urban Education.
The first guest blogger was Amy Demarest, author of Place-based Curriculum Design, a new book that is proving to be a must-read text for place-based educators. To open the series Demarest wrote a special blog on place-based education for Ethan Lowenstein’s students in the College of Education teaching program. Check it out here http://ow.ly/TY8jt!
In the second blog in our series, SEMIS Coalition member Bill Boyle, Director of Model Center, Bowers Academy and Equity Programming at Bloomfield Hills Schools, discusses the relationship between EcoJustice Education and Restorative Practices. Boyle’s blog, Recognizing Community, Recognizing Its Members, can be found here: https://semiscoalition.org/introducing-porter-chair-blog-series-guest-blogger-bill-boyle-on-restorative-practices-and-ecojustice-education/
We hope you enjoy this series and look forward to each new guest blogger!
