YOU ARE INVITED! The Southeast Michigan Stewardship Coalition is celebrating its 15th anniversary next year! Since its founding in 2007, SEMIS has helped teachers at more than 35 southeastern Michigan schools bridge classroom learning to the community, so students can help to tackle real-world problems in partnership with others.
As part of our 15-year anniversary, and in partnership with Maggie Bayless from ZingTrain, we have chosen to reflect on our work and articulate our values in a set of new guiding documents that will set the foundation for the next 15 years and beyond. Maggie Bayless has graciously donated her time over the past year in helping us draft our mission statement, guiding principles, and vision. As a Coalition, we believe that we are uniquely positioned to bring people from different walks of life and experiences together to make our common goal of creating a just, democratic, diverse, and sustainable community a reality.
We are currently working on our Mission Statement and Guiding Principles and will be sending out a survey to collect comments on the direction we chose to follow as a coalition that is reflected in our draft of mission statement and guiding principles. We want to hear your feedback on our direction and whether we are missing anything in our guiding documents.

Why are Mission Statement and Guiding Principles important?
Mission Statement is a brief statement that relays the purpose and the intention of the organization to our community. Guiding Principles articulates for us how we are going to behave and interact with each other as we try to live up to our Mission Statement to achieve our long-term vision. These two guiding documents will serve as a foundation to lay out our long-term vision for our organization. Once we have these guiding principles and mission statement drafted based on the community feedback, we want to use them to create SEMIS visioning for the next 15 years and beyond. Our strength-based coalition is rooted in collaboration, belonging, and a diversity of relationships, and we want to incorporate diverse feedback into our guiding documents.
Please join us for this two-part session, including a personal visioning session on Monday, August 1, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. and a SEMIS visioning session on Thursday, August 11, 2022 from 9 A.M. – 2 P.M. Registration link will be sent out soon.
The personal visioning session will be a 2.5 hours virtual session.
The visioning for SEMIS on August 11th will be in-person, and outdoors weather permitting. Lunch will be served.
Hope to see you there!
