Humans of Ypsilanti (3 of 7): Heath Reichardt

Interviewee Heath Reichardt
Interviewer Semiah Collier

For my Humans of Ypsi project, I chose one of my teachers, Mrs. Reichardt or Mrs. R (they/she) as we call her. She is 23 years old, they have been in Ypsilanti for 6 years as of 2023. Ypsilanti is the first place they can be themselves in their whole life and she enjoys her stay here. They like the community, ACCE (our school), downtown and Depot Town and the pet shelter. She said that the only thing she doesn’t like is the negativity. They dream of having a civics debate class, and to write a book. Art is one of their hobbies. She has a cat named Todd that she got from a pet shelter. In her Ypsi family, she has her husband and her school community and last but not least, her cat.

Humans of Ypsilanti is a project started at ACCE High School in 2021, where we interview members of our community and amplify their stories through our writing, photography and videography.

Thanks for sharing the story of your teacher! I think often people don’t see teachers in all of their complex identities.
