Humans of Ypsilanti (1 of 7): Introduction from Teacher Lauren Fardig-Diop

Humans of Ypsilanti is a project started at ACCE High School in 2021, where we interview members of our community and amplify their stories through our writing, photography and videography.

    I’m so glad that this project keeps going year after year! Preston talked today about the power of stories and offered some sharp observations about why so many people’s stories remain hidden and in the background. I agree with Preston, that you really do have to hear someone’s story in order to know them and appreciate them.

    This is an incredible way to teach people about the history of a community! I may have to try something similar in our community.
