Students have been learning about the invasive grasses that grow along Mill Creek in Dexter. We found out that a team of environmental scientists are planning a removal project and we wanted to know how we could help. Wylie 3rd graders worked with UM graduate students at the creek to learn about the problems invasive phragmites and canary grass create for our local ecosystem. Besides visiting the site where the invasives grow, students have learned from several experts about the impact of phragmites and canary grass, why it is important to remove them, and why we should teach our community about this project.
