Dexter Community Arbor Day Project

by SEMIS Coalition | May 25, 2025 | Community Forum 2025 | 0 comments

Our third grade students received a challenge letter from the city of Dexter to help them pick out tree species to be handed out for the annual Arbor Day event. The city gave students criteria of how to pick the best trees- such as making sure they were native to Michigan and if they are disease prone. Students researched the trees and made their recommendations to the city. Afterwards, students created in-depth informative pieces of writing to be handed out with the tree saplings on Arbor day so that community members would be able to pick the best tree for their yard and know how to care for it. Finally, students handed out trees on Arbor Day and presented to our city council about the project.
