Students were challenged by the City of Dexter to choose the 450 trees to be given out on Arbor Day. Once the trees were selected and ordered, students created brochures to give to community members as they picked up trees from several locations around Dexter. Part of the students’ research was informed by presentations from experts from the Michigan DNR and a local arborist. Students also spread the word by recording video PSAs, morning announcements, writing blurbs for the newsletter, and creating posters and displaying them at local stores and at school. After Arbor Day, students presented their work at the City Council and even awarded them with Dexter’s Tree City USA certificate on behalf of the DNR.
