Food Security Curriculum

The students and teachers at the Nsoroma Institute work together to create educational experiences that provide for an understanding of the importance of providing affordable, healthy culturally relevant food choices.  School wide curriculum that deals directly with local food security is in place to educate towards students impacting the community through the foods they eat.  They learn how to make healthy food choices, understand ingredients, and culturally relevant food preparation.  The teachers work into each week’s lessons the importance of understanding the connection between what students eat and dealing with the local health and security of their neighborhoods. The curriculum directly prepares students with the skills to counter the dominant message that the mainstream food industry is constantly imposing on poor communities and communities of color.
